Shred Fest 2026: Another Year, Another Success!
Madison Credit Union & Madison Fire Department Credit Union team up — with support from Madison Firefighters Local 311.
On Saturday, May 2nd, the community came out in force to Lincoln Elementary School’s parking lot for MCU’s annual Shred Fest — and the results speak for themselves.
Madison Credit Union and the Madison Fire Department Credit Union, with sponsorship support from Madison Firefighters Local 311, partnered once again with Pellitteri Data Destruction to offer free, on-site shredding to Madison residents. Pellitteri shredded all documents on the spot, ensuring the highest level of security for sensitive papers — and everything shredded gets recycled, not landfilled.
5.85 Tons Shredded — Here’s What That Means for Our Environment
This year, attendees brought in 5.85 tons of paper to be securely shredded and recycled. According to Pellitteri, here’s what that means for our environment:
🌲 100 trees saved — enough to represent a small forest preserved
🌫️ 6,000 lbs. of air pollution prevented — improving air quality in our communities
🛢️ 2,200 gallons of oil conserved — reducing reliance on fossil fuels
🚛 18 cubic yards of landfill space spared — less waste buried, more recycled
💧 41,000 gallons of water saved — enough to supply dozens of homes
⚡ 23,000 kilowatt-hours of energy saved — powering homes for months
A Record-Breaking Year for Donations
Beyond the shredding, attendees showed up generously for The River Food Pantry, donating $1,723.95 — a new record! — along with 304 lbs. of food and hygiene products. Each week, The River Food Pantry serves over 2,500 families with free meals, groceries, and personal care items. Your generosity makes a real difference.
“We love providing this free service to our community, and the gratitude we felt from attendees this year was incredible. Offering a free service to the community while raising donations for The River Food Pantry is the perfect example of credit unions putting people first.” — Rebecca Lauryssens, Marketing Director, Madison Credit Union
“This Shred Fest has become an annual event that provides a benefit to our members that they really appreciate. They in turn show their gratitude by contributing to the River Food Pantry and helping others in our community. Credit Unions provide more than excellent financial services, they help many people live better lives. We’re glad to play a part in that.” — Steve Krieger, President, Madison Fire Department Credit Union
A huge thank you to everyone who came out, to the Madison Fire Department Credit Union for their continued partnership, to Madison Firefighters Local 311 for their support in making this event possible, and to Pellitteri Data Destruction for keeping everything running smoothly. We can’t wait to do it again!
